It has been a while since I last wrote an article, and I noticed that my last one was in March.
Yes, it has played on my mind, but forcing myself to write for the sake of it did not feel right for me.
Life got in the way. It was about prioritising my time for the things that matter: family and supporting them through difficult times; clients who needed a bit more time and presence; and taking some time for myself to reflect, slow down, spend time in nature, and regroup.
When our energy is invested elsewhere, and the mind is busy, creativity doesn’t flow naturally, so forcing myself to write only left me stuck.
Have you ever forced yourself to do something that you knew was important, but somehow you didn’t have the energy to begin?
Or perhaps you began, but it wasn’t to your expectations? Then the self-criticism comes in, and you become so hard on yourself.
A gentle reminder that falling behind doesn’t mean failing
Telling yourself, “Life got in the way, but that’s OK.” It is not about excuses, but about being real with yourself, being honest, and being kind to yourself—telling yourself what you would tell a friend.
We are all on our own journey, doing the best we can, and knowing that each day brings an opportunity for a new beginning, a new experience, and a lesson.
During times like this, I read more, journal more, listen to helpful podcasts and listen to music.
The type of music varies depending on my mood.
I spend little time on social media because I believe it zaps my time and energy.
If I am going to read something, it will be something that lifts me or interests me, like finding new healthy recipes or hobbies.
Time is precious, so whatever I choose to read or practice is food for the soul.
Rediscovering Your Refocus
What do you do when life gets in the way? The plans you made, the goals you set, are now at the end of a to-do list.
-
Do you accept what has happened and reframe your thinking, or do you start to self-sabotage?
-
Is the way you deal with it serving you?
-
What can you do differently?
-
Do you question why life got in the way?
-
What is the lesson?
When answering the questions, I ask you to answer with your heart, not your head.
Go into a profound space and allow the first answer that comes to you to be the answer you accept.
Allow the noise to drop away. Stop trying to perform or solve anything; simply notice what is already there.
Trust your intuition.
I hope you found the article interesting and that it reminded you that when things don’t go as planned, it’s okay, and to be kinder to yourself.
Thank you for your emails and messages, as always. I am eager to hear about your experiences and thoughts on the articles.
Please feel free to share this with anyone who may find it helpful.
Wishing you a wonderful month ahead.
