Walk the Tight Path and Discover What is on The Other Side
YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD
I was inspired to write this article after having several conversations with people who expressed regret about not following their hearts and pursuing something they now feel is out of reach, or they are too old.
It is also a tribute to my late father, who always encouraged me to pursue whatever was in my heart and believed in me.
Sharing My Thoughts With My Dad
I remember sharing my thoughts with my dad when I was starting off my Coaching career.
I recall saying to him, ” I am nearing 50, and I am starting my career now. ” I laughed under my breath.
Dad stepped in and, in a loving way, said, “Now, stop that. It is never too late, and besides, you have more life experience now.
You have always been driven and determined.”
He ended what he wanted to say with an assertive, “I don’t want to hear you say that again.”
It Is Never Too Late, And You are Never Too Old
He gave me examples of things he wanted to pursue and didn’t and now regretted it.
No More Regrets
What quickly came to mind was when my parents, who were in their 70s, decided to retire to their homeland, Cyprus.
They began a new chapter in their lives, building their new home and reconnecting with family and old friends.
There were challenges and obstacles, and at times, I wondered, ” How do they do it?”
I guess they didn’t want to have any more regrets and decided to pursue one more thing: moving to Cyprus.
Have A Clear Vision Of Your Destination And Be Prepared For The Ride
Sometimes, you begin something with a clear vision of what you want.
You forget about the ride. It will have its ups and downs, and you will need to prepare for it and foster a mindset of resilience.
The ride is as important as the destination. The ride is where the learning takes place. It’s where you discover things about yourself, grow, and learn about your strengths and areas for improvement.
When you pursue something you love and that is new, your mind becomes like a sponge; it absorbs everything you introduce it to. The wonderful thing is it wants you to give it more of this information.
Don’t let the chatter in your mind derail your dream.
While working full-time and studying, the chatter in my mind sometimes took the frontline, and I would quickly shut it down and reframe my thinking.
Before I knew it, a clear vision of my destination became a reality.
The ride, each step of the way, was visible.
Each step builds upon the next, creating a solid foundation for me to continue my journey.
